Abstract

The current study investigates the multidimensional relationship between the Indian food sector and environmental deterioration spanning from 1990 to 2023. By employing a robust econometric framework, the autoregressive distributed lag bounds test, vector error correction model approach and the impulse response analysis, the study uncovers an environmentally sensitive sector in India. The findings reveal an inverted U-shaped curve existing between trade and environment, considering the complex relationship between economic growth and sustainability. Beyond significant statistical analysis, the present study highlights the valuable insights for policymakers that play a crucial role in India’s dynamic landscape, guiding the path of sustainable development. By examining the interrelationships between trade, environment and economic growth, the study offers a substantial tool for sustainable policy formulation in India. JEL Codes: Q5, Q56, O4
