Abstract
SUMMARY Two new indices are presented for the measurement of distances between populations on the basis of attribute data. The intermediate variables used to obtain these indices help to analyse attribute data in almost all the ways in which quantitative data could be analysed. The advantages and disadvantages of these and other indices are discussed.
