Abstract
Making Watershed Management Work is the theme of the 1980 Symposium of the ASCE Watershed Management Committee, Irrigation and Drainage Division. In response to this theme, the papers included in these two volumes address many aspects and applications of watershed management. Erosion of the watershed, and erosion and sediment models and case studies are covered in three of the twenty sessions. Mining effects on watershed are included, and particular attention is given to phosphate mining. Vegetation, forest, rangeland, and agricultural areas are discussed. Snow on the watershed is also a major topic of discussion. Groundwater management, turbidity and soil moisture, water quality, and spatial variability are explored in some detail. A section is devoted to modeling land use changes. An overview of general watershed management is given. Cooperating sponsors of the symposium include the American Geophysical Union, Section of Hydrology, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, the American Water Resources Association, the Association of University Watershed Scientists, the Society of American Foresters, the Society for Range Management, the Soil Science Society of America, the Soil Conservation Society of America, and the University Council on Water Resources.
