Experimental and Numerical Study of Column Drainage

1967 Journal of the Hydraulics Division 28 citations

Abstract

The status of research studies concerned with the vertical drainage problem is examined and the need for additional work on the comparison between measured and predicted water content profiles during vertical drainage is indicated. Laboratory instrumentation enabling the simultaneous, rapid-response measurement of the soil water suction and the water content is then described briefly and the use of such measured data in determining the hydrologic characteristics of the porous material under dynamic conditions detailed. The numerical solution of the vertical drainage problem using the dynamic hydrologic characteristics is then presented, and the computed and measured water content profiles compared.
